West Coast MegaGames develops, designs, and hosts large-format social strategy games, called megagames, for players across the West Coast of the United States.
Have you ever heard about a megagame? If you haven’t, dive on in and find out more about why we think megagames could be a unique, and interesting, experience for everyone.
A megagame involves a lot of player interaction, while the control team simulates the underlying game systems. Teams compete for scarce resources and information, using the strategy and the resources at their disposal to pursue the megagame's larger goals.
The most well-known megagame today is Watch the Skies!, a near-future simulation in which the earth’s governments must respond to the arrival of extraterrestrials whose motivations and abilities are unknown.
We are proud to be developing Project Nexus, a cluster of node.js servers attached to several single-page web applications designed to handle player input and outcomes for our live events. Our servers are responsible for simulating the game environment, tracking all outcomes, updating the game database, and then sending the data on to the user on the front end.
Games played through the Project Nexus servers are meant to be played live, with 30 - 100 players all interacting with a single simulated world in real-time to create a shared narrative during the period of play in what we have dubbed data-driven gaming (DDG).
7 megagame organizing groups from around the world are gathering for the second-ever marathon run of megagames at Gen Con! 7 games in 4 days. Come join us this August in Indianapolis, Indiana, for a special gaming experience!
